I finished it! The Harebel Fichu is finished and I'm really quite smitten with it. I enjoyed knitting the gorgeous harebell lace, although I never learned to knit it without chart. (It's not hard to knit, although there are knit 4together and other interesting techniques there...) The fichu has a certain vintage feel to it - I almost feel like I should wrap it in tissue paper when not in use. Charming really.
Sain pitsikauluksen valmiiksi! Ja se on aivan ihastuttava. Tästä tulee sellainen olo, että pitäisi kääräistä koko kaulus aina silkkipaperiin säilytykseen, sellainen vintage henki tässä mallissa epäilemättä on. Jotain todella viehättävää... Tykkäsin todella neuloa tuota jäniksenkäpäläpitsiä, vaikken sitä missään vaiheessa ulkoa oppinutkaan.

Lace shawl
Yarn: The Yarn Gallery (TYG) Compass - in Earth approx. 120g
Needles: 5mm
Absolutely love this yarn. It is "scrunchy" and the colour has amazing depth. (especially the purple looks gorgeous in nature!) It also handled really well in wet blocking - and now I have one cozy shawl. Although I probably will be wearing it like a scarf around my neck - attached with a nice brooch.

Lace scarf
I bought the wonderful sparkly yarn while on a day-trip to Tallinn Estonia. And it was quite evident that it had to become a scarf or shawl....
I have this wonderful book Victorian knitting today - by Jane Sowerby - which I absolutely recommend to anyone with interest in knitting lace or/and history of knitting. Lovely book.
Used one of the scarf patterns with wide border - and the scarf was ready in no time at all.
Pattern: Scarf with the Clarence Border from Weldons, 1886 (ravelry)
Yarn: less than 150g Glamour from HP Gruppen (97% Cotton, 3% metallic) , in shade #221 (powder with a gold lurex )
Needles: 4mm
Apart from lacy borders that are knit from side to side - the main part of the scarf is super-easy garter stitch with elongated stitches every 4th row. Perfect knitting while watching telly.
I plan to be wearing this when my mother-in-law gets married for the 3rd time in August...

Finished!
I made it! and just in time. Boy I'm happy that I managed to make it.
My Ravelympic project was Lady's Circular Cape from Victorian Lace Today by Jane Sowerby. All in all it was a nice project to knit and I do love the outcome.
However - photographing this thing was quite hard as it is raining outside and there just is not enough light inside. But here are some pictures anyways...

Olympics are here!
So let me introduce my Ravelympics 2008 project - Lady's Circular Cape by Jane Sowerby (from Victorian Lace Today)
I'm using Parisienne by Colinette in "Castagna".

Here all prep-work done (fortunately I did swatch this time!! had to downsize needles a notch - to 4mm)
and now I'm ready to begin. I just hope I can manage to finish this in time.... It should not be too bad. Demanding yes, but not impossible. Now I can only hope that children stay well and won't get sick and that everything else goes smoothly as well. otherwise - bye-bye deadline.
Here we go!
