Lavender

Nothing finished but lots of lavender on needles, it seems ... (I have no idea why)

Thick socks - Paksut sukat

All three girls are sick again. Poor little things. I knit to keep my sanity while trying to make them feel better. So knitting is limited to something easy. No colourwork or multiple skeins of yarn that become tangled etc.

Kaikki kolme tyttöä taas kipeinä, joten yritän pysyä tolkuissani neulomalla jotain helpohkoa (vain yksivärisiä neuleita) samalla kun päätehtävä on toimia sisar-hento-valkoisena...

So I knitted myself a pair of worsted-weight socks. They are so cool.

Neuloin jo seiskaveikasta paksut villasukat. Aikas makeet - vaikka itse sanonkin;-)
Pattern: Cable Rolling Socks by Mari Muinonen/ Tikru (ravelry)
Yarn: Novita Seitsemän Veljestä approx. 130g
Needles: 3.25mm dpns

I wasn't sure if I had enough yarn so I knitted the leg one pattern repeat shorter than asked for. Like them this way - they are long enough.

En ollut aivan varma riittäisikö lanka, joten jätin varresta yhden mallikuvion pois. Ihan tarpeeksi pitkät tuli silti.
The Best Part: Heel. This is the clou of the design. Absolutely gorgeous! And so fun to knit!
Mallin juju löytyy kantapäästä. Tosi hieno yksityiskohta.
Despite of all those cables, these were very fast to knit. Cable pattern is easy to remember, and cabling without cable needle + thick yarn makes these go extra-fast. Truly recommended pattern.

RPM

Knitting RPM- socks was an interesting experience. For starters, this pattern is very simple. Just knit & purl round after round (after round after round - 'til the eternity...) And I kept making mistakes. I could not knit these in front of telly, not to mention doing anything else at the same time. Constant vigilence was required. (Maybe it is just me - but I seem to have most trouble knitting these "simple" patterns - had similar problems with my Marigold-socks.... I kept going: knit 1,2,3,4,5,6, purl 1,2,3 , knit 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, - shite- rip of 1, p1,2,3,4,5,- Damn! - I just could not get into normal flow...)

RPM sukat ovat valmiit, pitkällisen neulonnan jälkeen. Jotenkin nämä ns. helpot ohjeet ottavat aina koville. En vain tunnu saavan neulonnan virrasta kiinni ja joudun laskemaan jokaikisen silmukan, jolloin homma alkaa tuntua hyvin nopeasti työltä. Puhumattakaan, että pystyisi tekemään jotain muuta samalla. Pakko keskittyä silmukoiden jatkuvaan laskemiseen...
Pattern: RPM by Aija Goto
Yarn: Wildfoote Luxury Sock yarn in Ragtime aprox. 60g (from my Secret Pal Kate)
Needles: Knitpicks Harmony 2.25mm dpns
I made my RPM socks with a short row heel & grafted toe. Also knitted in spiral pattern to the sole. And reversed the pattern for the second sock, so that they are mirror-images of each other. I think that was a good decision as I like the symmetry in socks:-) As for the yarn, this is a great pattern for hand painted yarn, as it only brings a bit of surface structure but does not diminish the beauty of the yarn. Also helps to prevent colours from pooling (or blurs the pooling effect). Nice. I loved this colour, so vibrant and the only thing that helped me keeping knitting these as I knew I would love the end-result.

And they look great with my spring shoes... (waiting for all that snow to melt first)
Näyttävät muuten oikein hyviltä kevätkenkien kanssa .. (kun tuo lumi nyt sulaisi ensin)

Darn!

I darn socks. Not that it would be my favourite past time or anything but somehow I always manage to wear holes into my handknit socks. So from time to time (normally when all my socks have holes in them) I sit down, take a deep breath and darn. (evidence above)

I've heard that there are people who can wear a pair of socks for years before getting holes in them. With me, that happens in a couple of months - if the yarn has nylon in it. (Purple socks in the photo are knitted from a divine 70%merino/30% cashmere, and the first hole appeared in less than two weeks - needless to say that I will never- ever knit socks from nylon-less yarn again!) Maybe it is the way I walk. I blame it to my background in dance & gymnastics.

No nyt on taas mitä käyttää siihen saakka kun saan puikoilla olevat sukat valmiiksi. (alkaa kyllä tulla RPM jo korvista...)

Fantastic

yesterday was a gorgeous day and I knitted outside on our porch, while my youngest one was taking a nap. How wonderful was that? Very. (that is still the second sock of RPM I'm having on my needles... maybe I get to finish it this week - and yes - that white stuff is snow...)

Aivan huippua!(Puikoilla on muuten vieläkin toinen RPM- sukka.. . ehkäpä se vihdoin valmistuu tällä viikolla.)

3rd SP13 Package arrived!

3rd package from my secret pal arrived yesterday and once again - it was a hit. Lovely yarn. Really nice booklets with a local touch (Hello Wisconsin!!- just had to say that - remember TV series "the 70's show"??? ) and M&M's for my daughters. Fantastic! I also got a card which revealed my secret pals identity - Thank you Kate! This was my 1st secret pal round and truly enjoyable.

Kolmas paketti SP13 vaihtoon liittyen saapui vihdoin eilen (oli postin sivujen mukaan tullut lajittelukeskukseen jo 27.2 - miten voi kestää 5 päivää sieltä omaan postiin???). Ihanuuksia taas koko paketti täynnä. Lankaa, neuleohjevihkosia ja namia. Kiitokset kuuluvat Stash house-blogin Katelle Winsconsinista.

So what was in it:Wisconsin Winter Socks - and other goodies - booklet (which begins with: "Some knitters live in boring climates and endure the same warm temperature year round. Not everyone wakes up to an invigorating blast of cold wind against weathered cheeks... " )
The Wonderful Wallaby - a hooded sweater for all ages - booklet
Knitcircus Issue #5
and lovely yarn:
wonderfully soft and lofty (and extremely warm . I would imagine) Houseblend (icelandic wool, alpaca and llama!) from Argyle fibre mill/fifty-mile fiber in a lovely rustic brown (2 big skeins - I'm already pondering what to make with it...:-) and a Gorgeous kettle dyed sockyarn from Rio de la Plata. ( I think 400yds should be enough for a small lacy scarf)
A great package . Thank you!!
Yummy...

Last stashbusting knits - Vikat lankahamsterineuleet

So I'm a bit behind in my blogging but here are the two last items I managed to knit during February:
Star Crossed Slouchy beret & Dragon scarf. They were fast knits and I'm relatively satisfied with them (although this time it seems Slouchy beret might have just a tiny bit too much slouch... well - it is good enough anyways... - and no, I don't normally wear these inside, but only put them on so my DH could take a couple of photos...)

Pattern: Star Crossed Slouchy Beret by Natalie Larsson (ravelry)
Yarn: Novita Polaris, under 200g
Needles: 6mm & 8mm
Pattern: Dragon scarf by Vilma Vuori (ravelry)
Yarn: Novita Teddy 2skeins & Novita Polaris (for crocheted borders)
Needles: 8mm

Scarf was really fast to knit but crocheted edge took forever to do (not really, it just felt like it - maybe it is just me & crochet in general) I run out of Novita Teddy but decided to make contrasting borders so black it was and I think it turned out pretty interesting. Sort of Army-meets-dragon - vibe.

(EDIT: My stashbusting saldo for February was 2597g.)
