Black lace with a bit of cream - Mustaa pitsineuletta kerman kera

Hey there - look: a finished knit project! I had postponed knitting this timeless lace-knit sweater for a couple of years, and finally got round actually knitting it. And it turned out pretty nice I think...

Needles: 3,75mm

Like always - pattern writing in Rowan magazines is impeccable. I do adore those magazines. Photos are always so pretty and everything is just so, well... So very British. There are many projects that I would like to knit of those magazines (I have them all - except the last one from the last 5 years..) And I still flip them through every now and then, just to see photos. Getting inspired. Whatever.

Anyhow, this sweater turned out very comfy and sort of vintagey, due to my chosen colour combo. I did think about choosing a completely different border colour (lime anyone?) but then after some pondering went with the cream. And it was a good call - me thinks.

Kun pitää kovasti jostain neulemallista ja harkitsee ajoittain sen neulomista niin jossain vaiheessa tulee se hetki, jolloin kannattaa valita lanka ja aloittaa itse neulominen. Näin kävi tämän ihanaisen pitsineuleen kanssa. Mallin on Rowan Magazinesta, jotka on aivan lempi neulelehtiäni. Selailen vanhoja numeroita jatkuvasti ihan vain niiden kuvien ja ulkoasun vuoksi. Ja on sieltä sentään jotain tullut matkanvarrella neulottuakin. Ihania kuvia, ja huolella kirjoitettuja ohjeita. 

No mutta tähän uuteen puserooni. Siihen nimittäin meinasi ensin tulla limenvihreät reunukset, joiden kanssa look olisi ollut varsin eri henkinen. Onneksi jostain syystä vaihdoinkin tuon reunusten värin kermanvaaleaan sokeriruokolankaan ja lopputulos on todella mieleinen. (ehkä vähän tuo mieleen jotain ranskalaisen tarjoilijan asua, mutta eipä tuo haittaa. värikombo ja nelikulmainen pääntie sen tekee) 
Tykkään tästä todella paljon. Ja käyttöönkin se on jo päässyt...

Bolero for Bella - Pikkubolero Bellalle

I actually finished this little cutie already during February - but it needed some sun and warmer climate to get some use.

Neuloin tämän pikkuboleron Bellalle jo helmikuun lankahamsteroinnin aikaan, mutta tarvittiin aurinkoa ja lämpöä, jotta neule pääsi neidin päälle asti.

Yarns: Wendy supreme cotton DK in #1854 lilac print , and Louisa Harding Glisten #22 for the edges.
Needles: 4mm

It's so much fun to knit something like this for the girls. The pieces themselves are tiny and I get to use all sorts of glistening, sparkling and glimmering yarns, which I would not use for my own knits. I have to say this is by far one of my favourite mercerised cotton yarns - although it is a bit hard on the hands it makes a beautiful knitted fabric. What surprised me was how soft the Glisten is when knitted up - I thought it would be at least a bit scratchy but no - it is smooth and shiny. Bella loves it. (although the one thing she does not like so much is the button. I think this wooden lime-coloured button fits the bolero perfectly but Bella would have wanted a flowery-pink'n'blue'n'yellow'n'what-not-button... Little girls...)
Tyttärille neulominen osaa olla välillä aivan ihanaa. Kappaleet on suloisen pieniä ja valmistuvat alta aikayksikön. Lisäksi Supreme Cotton DK on ehdottomasti yksi suosikeistani, jos merseroiduista puuvillalangoista puhutaan. Glisten sen sijaan yllätti tämän neulojan perinpohjaisesti. Kuvittelin että se voisi olla vähän karheaa ja kutittavaa - sillä sellaiselta se kerällä vaikuttaa, mutta lopputulos onkin mukavan pehmoista ja kimmeltelevää. Pitäähän tytöille tuossa iässä vähän kimallusta olla!
Ainoa asia josta meinasi nousta pienoista draamaa oli tuo napin valinta. Mielestäni kirkkaan-lime puunappi sopi tähän boleroon kuin nenä päähän mutta neiti ei ollutkaan sitten samaa mieltä. noh. lime nappi on ja pysyy - mutta olen kuullut huomautettavan jo muutaman kerran että se pinkki-sini-keltaisen-kukertava olis ollu "paljon nätimpi!" niih. aina ei voi saada mitä haluaa. Onneksi sentään bolero on "kaunis" juuri kuvan kesämekon kanssa - ja se taitaa pelastaa tämänkin episodin...

Almost forgotten - Lähes unohdettu

May I introduce Joy. The lovely vintage-inspired cardigan knitted in incredible (and sadly discontinued) Rowanspun 4ply.
This is the cardigan I managed to forget in one of my knitting bags. It was all sewn up and required nothing more than buttons. And it must have been in my knitting bag over half a year. I do not know how I forgot it! I love it so much. The fit is Perfect.
Rowanspun is (was?) a beautiful nubby, slightly felted tweed yarn. Nothing wrong with the colour either. It is totally me - sort of greenish-brown, or maybe even better a brownish green...

I love how it turned out. The buttons are so right (bought those from Etsy) . Everything just... Fits. Right.

Yarn: Rowanspun 4ply in Sludge (711)
Needles: 3mm & 3,25mm
The modifications: Could not understand from the pattern how the cuffs were supposed to be knitted so I just knitted them afterwards by picking up the stitches around the wrist. I also left the pearls out throughout. So my version is a simplified version of the original. Absolutely love this. It is something I could imagine stored wrapped in a tissue paper or something. It feels "special" somehow.
Ja sitten kotimaisella - eli tässäpä neuletakki, jonka onnistuin unohtamaan yhden kassin pohjalle yli puoleksi vuodeksi (kyllä - emmentalia havaittavissa - vai oliko se dementiaa??) Eikä neule ollut edes pahasti kesken: Vain napit puuttui. Onnistuin hankkimaan täydelliset, tyyliin sopivat vintage napit (tuntuvat lasisilta - voisko olla??) Etsystä.

Valmis Joy on ihana. Tykkään ihan älyttömästi. Tässä on jotain erityislaatuista. Ja istuvuuskin osui etten sanois täydellisesti kohdilleen. (Tähän voi tietysti vaikuttaa se että olen "onnistunut" lihomaan n.3kiloa viime kuukausina...hmmpf )
Ja vielä langasta - joka on aivan ihanaa , hiukan huovutettua Rowanin rowanspun 4ply:ta - siis miksi tämänkin valmistus piti lopettaa? Olen onneksi hamstrannut lankaa silloin kun sitä vielä sai ja tästä on valmiina itelläni 3 neuletta Joy mukaan lukien - ja miehelle neulottu Rogue-huppari, joka on ehkä eniten käytetty neule jonka ikinä olen saanut aikaiseksi. Loistava lanka. Rustiikki. Pehmeä. Kaunis. IHana. Onneksi tätä on tuolla kaapin perällä vielä ainakin pariin neuletakkiin ja yhteen tai kahteen huiviin;-)

Green Jacket - Vihreä jakku

Something for the oldest daughter this time. A lovely green jacket with a one button closing.

Jotain vanhimmalle tyttärelle tällä kertaa - ihanaisen keväinen vihreä pikkujakku.

I have "some" Jaeger Roma in my stash as I bought a lot of it when it got discontinued. Unfortunately I only have a few skeins per colour - so not enough to knit anything for me... However I had enough to knit a jacket for Bella.
Varastossani on jonkin verran Jaegerin Roma lankaa - koska sattuneesta syystä ihastuin tähän lankaan muutama vuosi sitten ja kun langan valmistus lopetettiin ostelin reilulla kädellä keriä varastoon. Tällä hetkellä ollaan tilanteessa, jossa varastosta löytyy kuutta eri väriä Romaa, mutta ei yhtäkään niin paljon, että saisin siitä enää itselleni mitään yksiväristä tehtyä - niinpä neuloin vihreästä jakun ekaluokkalaiselle.

Yarns: Jaeger Roma and Colinette Lasso for the edges
Needles: 4mm

Love the simplicity of the pattern and the cute button with flowers. Sleeves are a tad too long but children grow fast so I'm not too worried about that. The jacket is soft and has a nice stretch so it is very comfy to wear.

Pidän kovasti mallin yksinkertaisuudesta ja oli ihan hyvä veto käyttää toista lankaa reunuksiin. Hiukan miinusta aavistuksen liian pitkistä hihoista - mutta lapset kasvavat koko ajan, joten eipä tuo haittaa mitään... Söpön pehmeä ja joustava jakku. Kuulemma mukava päälläkin. (Nappi on muuten hieno. tyttö valitsi sen itse)

Caraway - 389g

The first Lankahamsteri-knit is here. It is Caraway jacket knitted in lofty Rowan Little Big Wool, which is an interesting yarn to begin with. It has a thick nylon cord that is covered with wool. This construction makes the yarn very light, considering it is a bulky yarn.

Tässä ekana valmistunut lankahamsterineule - Caraway verkkojakku. Lankana itselleni uusi tuttavuus Rowan Little Big Wool joka on superpaksuksi langaksi yllättävänkin kevyt. Tämä taasen johtuu langan erikoisesta rakenteesta. Langassa on keinokuitu sydän, jonka ympärille itse villa on kehrätty. Tuloksena tosi kuohkea lanka.

Yarn: Rowan Little Big Wool in Rock
Needles: 10mm (!!)

I like the texture of the simple lace stitch - which looks like a net. The shape of the jacket is extremely simple - it is basically 5 squares sewn together. In the photo I attached the jacket with a brooch but it can be worn several ways. Looks actually quite nice when attached only from top front corner so that the rest of the jacket hangs loose.
Pidän mallineuleesta - joka muodostuu jokaisella kerroksella tehtävistä langankierroista ja neulomalla 2 takareunoistaan yhteen vuorotellen. Nopeaa kuin mikä ja tuloksena on kuohkea ja ilmava verkko. Kuvaushetkellä kiinnitin jakun rintaneulalla vyötäröltä - mutta myöhemmin testailin eri kiinnityskohtia ja jakku näyttää ihan erilaiselta, kun sen kiinnittää toisesta etu-yläreunastaan. Silloin loppujakku pääsee liehumaan vapaasti A-muotoon ja linja on varsin hauska.

Lankaa tähän ekaan hamsterineuleeseen kului vain 389g!

Ravelry

When I found out about Ravelry some years back I was thrilled. It was like a heaven to a knitter just like me. I still would like to visit there, but for some reason I get in 1/20 times I try to get in there. The pages just won't load correctly and I can see there are messages for me but I am unable to get to them etc. Real frustrating.

However - sometimes Ravelry still is a life saver. I told here about my Rowan Polar jacket that I never finished because I run out of yarn. Then in help came Sigrun - she suggested that I would ask around in Ravelry from people who had that same Polar yarn in right shade in their stash if they would be willing to trade... and last week I finally was able to get a contact with the lovely Claire from the UK - who happily agreed to sell her remains of Rowan Polar to me. A quick paypal action followed and then yesterday the 2+ skeins of Polar arrived! Oh the JOY!!!! Thank you Claire! You saved my jacket! Now I Only have to find time to knit it ... Also thank You to Sigrun who was the mother of the brilliant idea of asking people in Ravelry.
Ravelry on loistokeksintö. Liityin vuonna 2008 ja se tuntui heti omalta. Neuleyhteisö, jossa sai puhua neulomisesta ja ihanista langoista niin paljon kuin halusi - ja samanmielistä seuraa riitti. Samalla sai pääsyn mitä ihanimpiin neuleohjeisiin - ja pääsi katselemaan kanssaneulojien tuotoksia... Taivas! Mutta viimeaikoina Ravelryyn sisällepääsy on ollut aina vain useamman yrityksen takana - jostakin syystä tunnun pääsevän sisälle vain noin joka 20. kerta, kun yritän sinne. JA silloinkin sivut aukeavat milloin minkäkin näköisinä - monesti pelkkänä tekstifilenä - josta ei ole riemua kuin yli-innokkaalle kodarille....

On Ravelrystä hyötyäkin - sen sain huomata, kun neuloessani harmaata Rowan Polar neuletakkia lanka loppuikin kesken. Olin jo epätoivoissani googlannut netin läpi (lanka tietysti mallia "tuotanto lopetettu"...) ilman tulosta, kun Sigrun ehdotti, että hakisin Ravelrystä. Ihmisillä kuulemma oli kyseistä lankaa merkattuna stasheihinsa - ja heistä joku ehkä suostuisi myymään omansa ja postittamaan Suomeen. Eikun kyselemään . Ja löytyihän sieltä ihana Claire, jonka kanssa saimme kaupat aikaiseksi. Nopean ja helpon paypal - maksun jälkeen jäinkin odottelemaan lankoja - jotka saapuivat eilen. Huippua! nyt saan villatakin valmiiksi! Mahtavaa!

On the eco-yarn testing front: I finally received all the rest of the test yarns today. Will start knitting today and also will let you know how those yarns behave on the needles - what happens when they get washed a couple of times etc. Cannot wait to start!.

Some sparkle to darkness

So - last time I complained about p7tog for Annis shawl. I'm happy to tell you that after tackling those it was all smooth sailing and the resulting shawl is ready and being blocked to shape as I write this.
I also managed to cast on for another Annis for myself:-) This time from the lovely green Madil Kid Seta. And I won't be knitting those frigging nups again - instead I'm planning on substituting them with clear beads... feeling a bit anxious on how that's going to work out - it is going to be my first knitting project with beads on it!

Other than that there's one more FO for you.

Sorry about the quality of the photos. It is so d a m n dark here that taking photos is a true challenge + the fact that at the time of photo session it was around -20 celsius (~-4 Fahrenheit) - so I was completely freezing in 2 minutes... (and these photos were taken around 1pm - so it should be the brightest time of the day!)
Anyways - I pretty much like this one. It has sparkle, but not overtly so. Just enough to give some glitz to life. It is very light and when I started knitting this I thought it as a layering piece - which it became. It does look quite festive if worn solo (= just a sleeveless top underneath) but I've been wearing it on top of vintagey blouses and jersey tops - and it is actually amazingly wearable. Like it a lot - pity about the photos. I guess the next time you'll get decent photos in this blog is in a month or so....

btw. I just found (!!!) a finished cardigan from one of my knitting bags! It is Joy by Kim Hargreaves - but it still misses the buttons. I know I picked up buttons for it but cannot find them! should I be concerned that 1. I did not even remember knitting that one and/or 2. I have no clue where the buttons are.... ) Weird!? Or do I just knit too much?

Parsley

Another finished knit that I'm really happy about. Love the colour and lightness of the lace.
Pattern: Parsley by Marie Wallin from The organic wool collection (Rowan purelife)
Yarn: Rowan Wool Cotton in Pumpkin #962
Needles: 3,5mm & 4mm
(for some reason I'm - once again - not able to access Ravelry - so no Rav.links this time...)

Modifications:
Knitted sleeves on dpn's and on the round. Made the body part 1 lace pattern repeat longer (before beginning the v-neck) as I would not wear it if it was that short than in the pattern... Also - 3 buttons instead of 2.

The whole thing looked a bit distorted and the lace pattern was somewhat messy - but the proper wet-blocking really transformed the garment completely. Now the lace pattern is crisp and clean - the surface of the knit is smooth.
A few words about the yarn - Rowan Wool Cotton. It is wonderful. Feels more like a buttery soft cotton than 50%cotton /50% wool that it actually is... But the wool content makes it easy to block after knitting. Just lovely stuff. Gotta buy more of this in different colour. (I'd imagine that this would be ideal for child's knitwear as well. so nice and soft)
Taas yksi valmistunut neule - Ihanainen Parsley pitsineuletakki vajaamittaisilla hihoilla. Oikein kiva. Modasin ohjetta sen verran, että tekeleeni on n.5cm pidempi kuin mitä ohjeen mukaan piti olla - ja neuloin hihat kokonaan pyörönä sukkapuikoilla. Tosin minä nyt neulon aina hihat sukkapuikoilla joten tarvinneeko sitä edes erikseen enää mainita...

Lankana pehmyt Rowanin Wool Cotton - eli 50% puuvillaa ja toinen mokoma merinovillaa. Voisi luulla puuvillalangaksi - paitsi että blokattaessa villan kyllä huomasi. Pitsineulepinta selkiintyi huomattavasti märkäblokkauksen ansiosta (ennen sitä neule oli varsin ryttyisen oloinen) . Tykkään myös noista suht. leveistä ainaoikein reunuksista - varsinkin pääntiehen se tuo sitä kaivattua ryhtiä todella kiitettävästi.

Summa summarum - varsin mukavanoloinen käyttöneule - sopii mainiosti kerrostettavaksi pidempihihaiseten päälle ja miksei ihan itsekseenkin topin seurana, kun taas säät joskus ensi vuoden puolella sallivat.

Nyt takaisin omenasavotalle - tänään olisi tarkoitus rahdata takakontillinen tuohon mehuasemalle. Saas nähdä millaista mehua saadaan.

Ether

Ether , or a modified version of Ether has finally got its own photo session and here it is. All sleeveless but still quite pretty. This is my second wrap-around style sweater from Damask and I still like the rayon/linen blend a lot. It has a great sheen but also a sort of rustic feel to it.

Yarn: Rowan Damask in Mica
Needles: 4mm & 3.5mm

The original design has short(ish) sleeves but I decided to omit them as then it would have been stricktly for summer wear.. and let's face it - summer here in Southern Finland is max.3months of the year. The rest of time you need long sleeves. Or long sleeves and a vest to wear on top of that. At least.
I tried Ether with some of my blouses & tees and noticed it can be worn up or down, depending where I want to wear it. So to work I could wear it like in the photo above- with a nice, crisp white blouse. And for the rest of time - when I'm my usual free-spirited self - I would wear it like in the first photo. With a long sleeved-tee underneath. (it looks nice on its own as well. on bare skin)
btw, I love those ties with tiny knitted leaves on them. I got slightly bored towards the end when knitting this (why does this keep happening to me? Anyone else feel like that? No matter how great the project is, by the time I'm 80% done I only count for rows when I'll be finished with it... Go figure...) and so I made every single leaf a bit different than the next. Every leaf is unique! Ha. (that kept me amused for a while;-)

All in all - I'm quite happy with my modified Ether. It has nice lines and I think it was a good call to leave it sleeveless. Maybe a bit romantic for me - but fine. I'll wear it anyways. (maybe I'm mellowing down? Where's my Downward spiral? Nothing that a good dose of NIN could not fix.)

Finishing touches - Viimeistelyä

I'm almost finished with my Ether and have decided not to knit sleeves for it. Only those important finishing touches left to do: Crochet waist ties, knitted little leaves --and blocking. so Pretty.Ether on lähes valmis - vain viimeistelyt puuttuvat - virkkailen tässä vyötärölle kiinnitysnauhoja ja vielä on lehdykät neulomatta ja tietysti blockaus puuttuu - mutta sitten onkin jo valmista. Päätin jättää hihat kokonaan neulomatta - jotenkin koesovituksessa tuli sellainen fiilis että tämä on parempi näin -- ilman hihoja.
